Plus Size Models Changing the Face of the Industry

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

It is a shame that far too often beauty is associated with being thin. It is this mentality that has warped so many women's ideas of what they truly should look like. Would Marilyn Monroe ever have been accused of not exuding sex appeal?

By today's standards she would be considered a plus size woman. What about other famous plus size models? Think of some of the most beautiful women in the world, and you will see that size does not limit a woman's beauty.

The women that plus size lingerie, plus size tops, plus size sexy bras and plus size maternity wear is aimed at do not look like the models in the ads. How could a creature who weighs little more than a hundred and five pounds ever have the same body shape as a plus size woman weighing over one hundred and fifty pounds?

The answer is that they do not have the same shape. It is ridiculous to have thin women wearing fashions supposedly marketed for the plus size women clothing niche. Something had to change and gladly it did.

That change came in the form of world famous plus size models such as Emme, Kate Dillon, Natalie Laughlin and Barbara Brickner.

They helped designers see that a little extra fabric could bring wonderful results. People would realize that unrealistic body shapes are not always attainable without devastating consequences, such as anorexia or bulimia. These women helped launch clothing plus sizes into the mainstream retail stores.

Men don't face the same stereotypes that women have when it came to size and shape. They can be called "big and tall" and not seem like a monster in a dress.

Double standards will forever be a fact of life but at least in fashion there is now hope. Plus size models cannot change the world themselves but they have made a start. It is now up to each plus size consumer, her family and her friends to celebrate the fact that women come in different shapes and sizes. Beauty is more than skin deep.

It is within and is not marked by the size of the container. The world is beginning to notice this and great changes are occurring.

Plus Size Lingerie Spice and No More Granny Panties

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Lingerie can be more than the basic plus size bras and panties. It can be about beautiful fabrics that make you feel sensual even when you are sitting at work.

They are designed to make you feel sexier and more feminine. Throw out those serviceable undergarments and hideous nightgowns. There is something for everyone and you do not have to be a size four to take advantage of plus size lingerie.

A woman's life can sometimes be monotonous. It becomes more about routine than it does spice. That is the time to try out some plus size costumes for the bedroom. Have you always wanted to be the naughty school girl or the wicked, wicked witch?

There are plenty of stores to help fulfill any fantasy you may have. If you feel that you cannot face going into an adult store (the XXX rated kind or the R rated) to buy those fantasy costumes, then you can look for online plus size items and browse for a new persona.

Now, tackle those serviceable plus size bras that you wear everyday to work and around the house. Sure they give you great support but they resemble something your great-grandmother wore. You deserve to feel sexy. What about some sheer lingerie bras that not only support but are delicate and lacy.

Even if you need some heavy duty support in your lingerie plus size items because you are generously blessed with a large bosom, then you can still buy beautiful bras that not only fit great but also look incredible. Do not waste your time and money on womens lingerie or bras that come in cardboard packages.

Whoever keeps marketing those horrible cotton, high waist granny panties needs to stop right now because, while they may be comfortable if you are seventy, they are not designed to make you feel sexy.

You need some plus size lingerie to make you feel great about yourself and put a new spring in your step. Perhaps you should give some lace bikini cut panties a try. Maybe you are in the mood for some thongs that make you feel devilishly sexy. No one has to know what goes beneath your pants or skirt if you do not want them too.

Forget those box sets of panties and plus size bras that you bought at the discount store. They neither flatter your shapely curves nor do they feel sexy against your skin. You deserve silk, satin, lace and leather if it makes you feel good.

Plus size lingerie works by giving you a foundation on which to build. You start next to the skin with something beautiful and you work your way up from there. By the time you reach the outer layer of clothing, you will feel sensual, spicy and ready to head out and conquer the whole world.

Plus Size Fashion Rules to Live By

Friday, November 14th, 2008

There are and will always be fashion rules that the plus size woman should consider taking into account when shopping. If you are a plus size woman, then you are well aware of the problems with some fabrics and prints.

Plus size fashion can be a field filled with landmines and if you do not tread carefully, then you might find yourself with a closet filled with uncomfortable, unflattering clothing that does no good. Nope, you need a little bit of knowledge if you do not want to waste your money and time on products made of spandex.

The first big fashion rule that you should never break and should consider your best piece of advice is to avoid spandex at all cost. Unless you intend to use it as a girdle, it is not flattering on anyone. Okay, so some people can pull off that look but those are the people who spend eight hours in the gym every single day and never eat a single bit of fast food or carbohydrates.

Your plus size apparel should not contain this fabric. There are plenty of other items of clothing, such as plus size dresses, plus size tops and plus size pants that are made of natural fibers and will enhance your curves rather than smash them together.

Plus size fashion divas would never be caught in horizontal stripes, right? That would be false. There are actually plus size tops that do have horizontal stripes that do not make you look bigger than you actually are. You just have to be careful in the quantity of stripes and how big the stripes actually are.

On the same page as stripes is the overwhelming flower print most often associated with plus size maternity shirts. Pregnant women do not want to look like a walking flower garden. Keep the overwhelming flower prints, or any prints for that matter, to a minimum in size and quantity. Too many that are too big will only draw attention to problem areas.

The best way to find the plus size fashion that works best with your body style is to try things on while shopping with a friend. Ask the friend to tell you honesty what outfits look better than others.

Of course you know to avoid some fashions faux pas, such as low riding jeans, but anyone without a tone stomach has to avoid those. No matter what your size, be comfortable in your own skin and you will look great in anything.

Plus Size Clothing – Rules For Purchasing Online

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

If you start looking for clothing online, then you will have a few things to worry about. Sure, you may have the occasional order that is messed up. Perhaps they sent the wrong item or an item was left off the original purchase. Those mistakes are out of your hands. You cannot control anything once you hit the Send button.

But there are some mistakes that customer's make and they can be prevented with a little bit of forethought. Plus size clothing is not much different when it comes to ordering online. You still have to make sure that you take care of things on your end.

The number one problem with buying clothing off the internet is sizing. Hopefully, in a retail store, you try on each item before you hand them your credit card. You know, before buying, that the plus size dresses or plus size tops fit your body shape.

This is impossible to determine when buying online. Sizes can vary with each designer and store. You absolutely must know your exact measurements and compare those measurements to their size chart. If you are a size 3x, then you certainly don't want to receive a size 2x. Do not panic if it means you have to move up a pant size. It is just a number. Just remember that beauty knows no size.

If you are buying plus size womens lingerie, then you need to be very sure of the size because many online websites do not accept returns. They may let you exchange that shirt for another size or style but they will not want those bras and panties back.

You will be out that money because you did not pay attention to their return policy. Keep your hard earned money in your purse instead of giving it to them for products you cannot wear.

The goal of buying plus size clothing off the internet is to get really good deals on great clothing. You cannot expect to get designer fashions at discount store prices.

If you do, then you are being ripped off. Either the clothing is a knock off or it is a really shoddy version of the designer brand. You have to be careful about how good the deals seem. If it looks too good to be true and the plus size apparel is claiming to be designer brands, then something is wrong.

If you are looking for plus size dresses or plus size tops to wear immediately, then you may need to find a retail shop. However, unlike the online stores, a brick and mortar shop may only have a limited selection of plus size clothing.

But if you are willing to wait a few days, then you can find some great websites that offer really good deals on plus size apparel at very affordable prices, and you will not feel ripped off by shoddy quality.

Buying Plus Size Clothing

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

There are some really great retail stores that are in most major cities and shopping malls.

These stores are also found online. Some items may seem expensive, such as plus size lingerie, dresses plus size, plus size swimwear or even plus size maternity wear, but you really are getting a great deal when you compare it to other stores for smaller sizes. One retail store stands out from the crowd because it carries clothing exclusively for the plus size woman.

Lane Bryant has a wide range of styles, colors and fabrics for any shape body. Their prices are very reasonable and the clothing actually stands up to rigorous wear and tear.

Macy's Department Store has a pretty good selection of clothing in larger sizes. It is not an exclusive store devoted to plus size women's clothing, but it does carry quality brands that are very affordable, chic and made to last more than three wears. T

he downside to this store is that it does not always have locations that are convenient for every shopper.

If you cannot find what you are looking for in a retail store, or there is not a retail store close to you, then you always have the option of online plus size shopping. You should have a choice when you start looking to buy plus size items and the internet can give you that choice. No need for driving all over the country when a few mouse clicks will have you surfing through all of the stores available.

Buy Plus Size Clothing

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

There are plenty of places to turn to if you want to buy plus size clothing. All you have to do is drive to the local mall or surf the internet and you can find several shops that carry plus size apparel.

It has been a long time in the making but at least now women who are a size 2x, a size 3x or larger have options for clothing at prices that are reasonable. Here are a couple of stores you may want to consider when you are out shopping.

Womens plus size clothing is anything over a size twelve. Yes, a size twelve is now considered to be plus size. Ten or fifteen years ago it was the average size of teens and women, but alas, the emaciated trend bled over into the designer world because it took less fabric to make the templates for the fashion runways.

It was easier to find twigs than it was branches. Now times have changed and women have the power to buy plus size fashions that are not only high-end but also the epitome of designer style.
