Delhi to host India''s first fashion week for men – Yahoo! India News
New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) India will host the country''s first fashion week for men to showcase opportunities in the burgeoning market. Delhi will play host for the event, making it the fourth city in the world, after New York, Paris and London, to hold a fashion week exclusively for men.
"Fashion is not all about women. Men''s fashion week was long overdue.
Delhi is going to be the fourth city in the world to exhibit the best in fashion," said Sunil Sethi, President of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). The fashion week which commences on September 11 is a collaboration between FDCI and international lifestyle brand Van Heusen.
"Delhi markets have been changing over the years, there has been an emergence of new trends. People are interested in fashion here.
A number of designers are based here too," said Shiv Subramaniam, brand head of Van Heusen, on why Delhi was chosen as the venue. As fashion ceases to concern only women, there has been an increasing interest to promote menswear by fashion designers and merchandisers.
"There is a very strong demand domestically for menswear. It comprises over 70 per cent of branded wear in the country, and the industry is growing at more than 15 per cent," said Sethi.
