Back to School Fashion
What back to school fashion choices say about students
Students express themselves in different ways, such as body language, spoken language and/or their makeup and hair styling.
Another highly visible method of expression is in their choice of clothing. They begin each day with a new attitude and this is reflected
in their clothing choices. By observing the fashion choices they make, a keen observer can gain insight into their thought processes.
What Clothing Choices Reveal
There are several ways to view a student who never changes their clothing style.
1) They have found a fashion style they like and feel comfortable wearing, so see no need to change. This is a
sign of supreme self-confidence, especially if the clothing does not follow the new back to school fashions.
2) If they are wearing the same clothing as in their previous school year, it could be a sign that the previous year had been a great
experience and they were eager to recreate it.
3) Another interpretation of a student wearing the same clothing style is that it could be a lack of personal growth or low self-esteem.
They could feel that no one notices them anyway, so why bother trying to be noticed?
On the other hand there are different interpretaions for a student who slavishly follows the social trends in back to school
fashions.
1) They could be desperately trying to fit in, to become part of the 'in' crowd.
2) They feel inferior, unable to choose clothing by themselves, so they follow the fashion trends.
3) They could also genuinely like the prevailing fashions and want to weat them.
4) They consider themselves to be a trend setter and enjoy seeing their choices emulated by the other students.
5) They could be trying to distance themselves from a bad experience by re-inventing themselves.
As outline above, there are many interpretations possible for a student's choice in clothing, particularly in their back to school fashions
where they are subject to judgement by their peers. Each person should be evaluated individually, since each situation is different and
subject to change as their individual situations change.
